Všichni dobří rodáci
A chronicle of a picturesque Moravian village set in the dramatic events of post-World War II years, this film mirrors in the life stories of several protagonists the broader conflict between the powers that be and the characters of individual human beings. Director Vojtěch Jasný, who left Czechoslovakia in the aftermath of the Soviet-led invasion of 1968, drew inspiration here from real-life fates, to transfer onto the silver screen a moving portrayal of the workings of an arbitrary authoritarian system which was to affect human relations for decades to follow. Jasný´s lyrical approach is instrumental in the film´s striking an ultimately consolatory note, notwithstanding the catalogue of tragedies, in its tender portrayal of the Moravian countryside.
