Postřižiny
A nostalgic screen memoir, this is a tribute to the country of Bohumil Hrabal´s childhood in the 1920s, a stage in his life which he spent in and around the provincial brewery where his father was manager. The film´s smoothly flowing narrative concentrates on the portrayal of life´s ordinary, everyday pleasures, the few intrusive elements being represented by the stunning good looks of the manager´s wife, plus perhaps disputes concerning the proper temperature of the brewery´s product. The intoxicating atmosphere of the period, characterized by a symbiosis of genuinely revolutionary engineering inventions with perhaps as many equally epochal eccentric ideas and contraptions, is captured with great flair not the least thanks to a cast including some of the foremost Czech actors. The film´s nationwide popularity inspired the successors to the story´s brewery to introduce a line of beer brands named after the comedy´s star characters and themes.
