The first lady of Czech cinema decided here to draw up a "bill" for male chauvinists. Throughout the film, whose story is set largely in a hospital ward, men grapple with consequences of their previous deeds. One of them is Doctor John, whose trouble starts as he becomes attracted to the unorthodox nurse, Anne. Věra Chytilová cast in the leading parts of this provocative gynaecological comedy her colleague, the well-known film director Jiří Menzel, and actress Dagmar Bláhová whose subsequent formidable silver-screen career stretched out as far as Australia.
