Čas sluhů

This is a story of unscrupulous romancing going on within a vicious circle of friends, as well as a piercing analysis of emotional bonds based on the dominance of one of the partners. The demise of communism does little to alleviate the general feeling of hopelessness at a time when pragmatism was believed to be the sole way to success. The film´s young and ambitious woman director Irena Pavlásková offered a chance here to several actors who were to rise to stardom in Czech films of the 1990s. Karel Roden could hardly have guessed then that eleven years later he would be making his successful debut in Hollywood, playing alongside Robert De Niro in the movie 15 minutes.
